The mission of the Berkshire Music School is to foster the love and pursuit of music for all ages through quality music education activities, community collaborations, and performance opportunities.
Our Values
-
We strive to provide access to all: all ages, all backgrounds, all skill levels, all interests, and all financial backgrounds.
-
Our faculty is comprised of people with varying experiences and skills sets. They are passionate individuals ready to take on the needs of each individual learner. Our staff is equipped with the skills to make the wheels keep turning and to help support each and every student.
-
Having an array of classes available for even our youngest youth provides a musical education experience from the start. Exposure to music early in life has benefits to cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development while also improving memory, problem-solving skills, the regulation of emotions, and helps with developing fine motor and gross motor skills, creativity, and social skills.
-
Having classes for all ages means you can continue to learn regardless of where you are in life. It is never too late to learn an instrument and enjoy music. The benefits of learning throughout our lifespan are numerous. Learning an instrument has endless benefits!
-
Sharing music with the community is important, so we value offering affordable music performances throughout the year. The value of being a performer is important as well, so we encourage our students to participate in recitals or other events throughout the year!
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Statement
Founded on the belief that everyone benefits from participating in musical programs, Berkshire Music School’s mission is to foster the love and pursuit of music for all ages through quality music education activities, community collaborations, and performance opportunities. In addition to the inherent sense of joy and camaraderie that music provides, studies show that music enhances confidence, community engagement, discipline, as well as improve cognitive and psychosocial development in all ages. Additionally, making music offers a unique opportunity for self-expression allowing individuals to articulate their identity in a visceral manner. Berkshire Music School recognizes that no one type of musical expression inspires everyone, and we endeavor to offer courses, teaching styles, and performances that represent the myriad of musical voices present throughout our community.
Diversity is an integral part of making music, and Berkshire Music School is committed to providing a supportive, multicultural environment that is welcoming to everyone without bias toward any race, color, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or socio-economic group. We are dedicated to creating an accessible, inclusive, and supportive artistic home for all who wish to participate. We seek to strengthen our understanding of issues concerning inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility through educating our staff, faculty, and board of trustees, listening to stakeholders within the organization and in our community, and addressing the evolving needs of our community through diverse and engaging artistic programming.
