Amy Renak has been a piano instructor at BMS since the olden days…1988…pre-cellphone, pre-selfies, and pre-too many television channels! She has a BA from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington) and did graduate work at the Hartt School of Music before she ran out of steam and wanted an apartment all her own. She studied the Suzuki piano method with Marilyn Taggert in Schenectady, NY.
Amy’s philosophy for learning is quite simple: work hard, obtain a good result! Have fun along the way and please prepare for your lessons. She’s a stickler for fingering, and once you see a better performance because of it, you too will hooked! Amy enjoys teaching children and adults immensely.
Amy is the Director of Music at Zion Lutheran Church, her home congregation, since 2003; and is the Choir Director at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, a Jewish Reform congregation, since 1996. She is an accompanist for various choral groups in the region, and enjoys singing the occasional cabaret. Amy was recently married to Mark Mitchell. They reside at Breakwynde with their two cats, Flora and Dahlia.
